Bend over and heel!

in Musing

Folks,

Since many damage dealers in scenarios are playing in their own groups to increase renown gained and because they feel they don’t receive help (i.e. heals) from the other players we decided to nerf renown gained from healing. This should take care of healers actually healing and not doing damage. Bring out the hammers boys, it’s hammer time!

Now he didn’t really say that, but that’s how they did it. Ever figured that the reason you wasn’t healed was because you are a selfish bastard? If you are running scenarios in your own private group I won’t heal you. Don’t try to bring the bullshit that you are in your own group because no one is healing you, you are in it so that you can get more renown. If I was near you and was able I would have healed you. But healers are not a trained monkey running 5 feet behind you and only you. In fact, if you are a Bright Wizard chances are that we are ignoring your unstable self-exploding ass on purpose and healing the tanks that stop the entire Destruction zerg from reaching you. Grow some balls and die with dignity. Or try playing a tank.

You have a healer main character that blows the healing charts in every Scenario? Still don’t have the right to comment on other people’s healing. Everyone play for different reasons but the primary is still to have fun. If you don’t think everyone in your group are performing to your standards create your own premade where you can rule with a iron hoof. In a PUG you got to have a hard skin.

Damage dealers just have to smash buttons to do damage while healers have to decide whether to heal or do damage in every situation. Please complain about their performance so they don’t have to waste that micro second to decide whether to heal your dying ass or not.

Besides, it’s not like your whining will make them heal more or better; probably the contrary considering the natural stubbornness of humans. What you should do is compliment the healer who actually won the healing meters in such a way that people are almost reporting you for sexual harassment. Everyone wants praise, and handing it out to the other guy is a good carrot for the low performing.

“Wow you really saved our asses there, healer X!”

“Thanks for the healing, healer X, you were awesome!”

“We won but we couldn’t have done it without your awesome healing, healer X!”

“Have my babies, healer X!”

  1. “Damage dealers just have to smash buttons to do damage while healers have to decide whether to heal or do damage in every situation.”

I really, really like that quote especially in WAR where healing classes can actually do more than just heal. Yes, maybe I should’ve healed your ass instead of pounding away at the Witch Elf that was killing you. I can admit to making tactical mistakes from time to time especially in the heat of battle.

But, guess what? That’s my call to make and it will continue to be so until such a time as you can pay my monthly subscription fee.

  2. what’s funny is, back in Beta, I did get someone to actually complement me on my heals in scenario chat. Granted, I was solo-healing 9 people and almost all of them lived so I felt I deserved it, but I haven’t gotten a complement like that since release. (Hots are overpowered when the enemy doesn’t know how to focus-fire.)
My point? The better the community is, the more appreciated healers are. The more appreciated healers are, the more effort they’ll put into healing.
Good community fosters good gameplay, especially among healers and tanks. Be supportive, and they’ll more likely put their backs into it more- I feel better healing or guarding someone who isn’t stupid about it.

  3. Preach it!

The only thing I’d add is if you want to thank healers, don’t just thank whoever topped the scoreboard because it might have been that runepriest who was just hotting everyone in sight to play the meters and not the warrior priest who spotted you were about to die and saved your butt. Thank all of them, or thank ‘whoever healed me’. That way everyone can feel good about it.

  5. Man, I miss the days when my fellow healers healed because they liked healing and didn’t construct long arguments about when, where, and why they should/shouldn’t heal. It was a simpler time. Now they all seem to have insecurity issues. :-S

Ah well, given the comments from both sides of the argument, looks like I’m now a minority healer who actually prides himself with keeping his team alive through superior healing and realizes that the damage is for the ranged DPSers, just as it was in DAoC.

  6. As a healer, I work hard at doing the best healing I can (frequently topping charts). Simple rule that I use: someone that starts whining, I stop healing them. Plenty of others that need it. Those that compliment my healing, will get more. Amazes me how many tanks over-extend, letting 3 to 4 tanks through to wreak havoc on healers, then whine that they are not getting heals.

  7. /cheer

i go by the “if you cant see me i cant heal you” mentality… im starting to get on the no heals for the odd man out but instanct takes over and they get heals.

and to the dewd standing next to me waiting on a heal.. your not taking damage .. wait in line lol

Funny that your think pwning health bars is more challenging then killing the opposing faction.

  9. Funny how that’s not what I wrote

  10. Plus, you never hear chat about how another class “sucks” during a scenario — except for healers. Is it harder than tanking? Perhaps not, but at least if you’re a tank I’ve yet to see anyone complain that “all of our tanks suck”.
