The Disciple of Khaine has three Mastery paths: Dark Rites, Torture, and Sacrifice.
- Abilities in Dark Rites are mainly heals and cost Soul Essence.
- Abilities in Torture are mainly attacks that do damage and cost Action Points while building Soul Essence.
- Abilities in Sacrifice are a mix of the other trees. It’s mostly attacks that do damage and heal part of the damage, or debuff the target. Abilities from this path cost Action Points and build Soul Essence.
To explain what the abilities do, we start from the beginning. I will however only list the abilities between rank 1-14 to begin with.
Rank 1
- Cleave Soul (damage) - This will be your main attack for most of the time. In the beginning it’s the only thing you got, but later on it will mostly be used as a filler as you wait for other abilities that have cooldown.
- Fist of Khaine (damage) - The low damage and cast time make this only useful to pull or attack at range, even when moving. If you spam it enough it might kill the one you are chasing, but never get into a shooting contest with careers that can do worse (ie Bright Wizards). Useful together with Covenant of Celerity as the attack can trigger the slow effect.
- Restore Essence (heal) - Your only heal for a time that will do a instant amount of healing. It only has a 0.5 second cast time so it can be used even when getting hit without too much push-back. Mostly it is valuable for it’s HoT effect, but it requires too much SE to be cost effective.
- Blood Offering (buff) - This converts 150 AP to 150 SE, but is channeled over 5 seconds. Extremely useful when you need a fast boost of SE.
Rank 2
- Consume Strength (damage/debuff/buff) - Does a moderate amount of damage and take part of the targets strength and give it to your defensive target.
Rank 3
- Soul Infusion (heal) - Your favourite heal. Instant cast, a big HoT, cheap. Throw it on anyone and everyone, while moving.
Rank 4
- Covenant of Vitality (buff) - A party buff that gives a 20% chance of doing extra damage and heal for the same amount. Really nice.
Rank 5
- Lacerate (damage/debuff) - A DoT that also debuffs Toughness. Should be the first thing to be used on a enemy since it also improves other abilities if Lacerate is on the target (see Flay).
Rank 6
- Consume Essence (damage/heal) - Pitiful damage combined with a small heal in a even smaller area around you, don’t really have much use apart from being a small heal that doesn’t require SE.
Rank 7
- Terryfing Vision (buff) - The only detaunt ability, useful for when you get aggro from a really hard hitting enemy.
Rank 8
- Rend Soul (damage/heal) - Channeled and cost 25 SE/second for 3 seconds, dealing moderate damage and heals for 250%. Very useful and going to your main heal if going Torture or Sacrifice path and using the Divine Fury Tactic (the healing from Rend Soul is based on the damage done, so the healing penalty is ignored - it’s basically a 25% damage and heal increase).
- Divine Favour (morale) - Your first Morale, and a very useful such. Instant heal for a high amount, best saved for “oh shit!” situations.
Rank 9
- Flay (damage/debuff) - A high damage ability that also does a slow effect (40%) if Lacerate is on the target. It has a 10 second cooldown and slow for 6 seconds, so you need to be quick to reapply it.
Rank 10
- Stand, Coward! (ressurect) - Ressurect dead allies with 20% life (and have the best name and tooltip), can be used in combat, but has a 6 second cast time. Useful to bring some dead allies to you when reinforcements are too far away, but can also turn the tide of the battle if you manage to sneak aside and bring up your allies before the enemy notice.
Rank 12
- Essence Lash (damage) - One of the few Area of Effect (AoE) spells you have and very useful. Keep in mind that only enemies in front of you will get hit by it, so position is important.
- Rampaging Siphon (Morale) - Your second Morale ability. AoE spell that does a very good amount of damage and heals for the same amount. Very useful.
Rank 14
- Covenant of Tenacity (buff) - Party buff that increase armor. For my rank 14 Disciple it gave around 10% additional physical protection.

Regis are you planning a post about how the GOA did NOT screwed up HS? Really I heard that waiting time for e-mail was less than a minute ( o.O ) the servers was quite on time and they had COMUNICATED with comunnity for nearly all night and day (that sounds impossible I know) ?
It just needs a comment I think.
On the side of DoK They are badass. Really. On Scenario my tank was weak against them although my Archmage usually kicked their asses (but only due to searing touch). I had a “duel” with one. The battle was who will be healing quicker and as my healing were weaker and weaker due to small AP his were getting stronger and stronger as he fought. At the end I died but I nearly got his ass, but this was too little.
I hope we meet in-game as I am going to play Destro Magus! Yes RDPS are for me and I love Magus pets.
@Hirokana: I might post something about it, but since I’m not in the HS I can’t really comment on it from personal experience, only from what other say. It’s nice that they have shaped up, but if they delivered less people would be really angry. Tar and feather angry ;)
Regis, do you know what the primary attribute for the DoK is? I played a DoK during Open Beta and wasn’t sure if I should increase intelligence or strength in order to maximise DPS. At first I thought intelligence, but then I’m thinking that strength is the way to go, since all the DoK’s skills are melee based. What’s you take on it?
Strength is most important since it powers all melee attacks. Intelligence only works on magic, and I think the only magic damage spell we have is Fist of Khaine, which is pretty worthless to improve.
After strength I’m not sure of the order, I don’t have enough theorycraft to support any theory, but I ranked weapon skill and toughness the highest in beta, followed by willpower (mostly for RvR).
I have a DoK at the moment and the main stats I go for are Strength and Willpower. I am always questing with my Missus on her sorcerer so the willpower is an extra boost to the healing, but considering that some abilities heal based on damage Strength works well too.
