Blog madness and what I want to read

in General

Because I feel obliged to at least drop a line on that the NDA is about to drop, and that a date for Open Beta has been announced, here is my take on the news.

See, I was watching a movie peacefully, and when it ended there was 25 or so new posts in my Google Reader. Normally that means that the Dev tracker on Warhammer Alliance has gone nuts with developers spamming away, but not this time. No, this time there was a spam of blog posts, and it annoyed me no end to read the same thing over and over again, in 25 different phrasings.

I, like probably everyone that want to be on top of the news, are subscribing to big news site that report the slightest difference in the force the game industry the second it happens. The reason I might be subscribed to your blog is because I find your opinion interesting, not that I can hear the latest news retold in your way. If you just have to say something about it, give your view on the entire thing, what it might mean, and what exactly it means to you.

Tomorrow we will probably see the NDA drop, and I dread what my Google Reader will show me. Every blogger who has spend five minutes in the beta will post long articles on what it’s like, how stuff works, guides for levelling, combat and how to tie your shoes.

I have not been in the beta, so WAR is still a big closed book of mystery for me. All I know have been retold, rephrased, and watered down so many times that I probably have no clue what the game is really all about. I would probably be a good example of a person who has not played the game, but still interested. Basically the person that most bloggers might be addressing with their long guides tomorrow.

So instead of doing like most beta testers and announce what they will be posting once the NDA drops, I will take on the role of the normal readers and announce the stuff I want to read when the NDA drops.

I want to hear how the game is, both good and bad things - don’t you dare go all fanboi over the game, I want the uncensored stuff.

I want to know how the RvR is. Are the RvR consisting of big zergs moving around, instantly nuking every melee career that put a toe into the no-mans land? Are tactic actually used in how groups of players move around and attack, or is it madness?

How is 1vs1? Is it all based around RvR or is there actually some balance between the careers? Rock, paper, scissors? Can one actually spend time with questing without getting raped every five minutes by roaming gank squads?

Crafting? The things we have been told is not much, it sounds like they haven’t been focusing much of the crafting in this game.

Economy. Is there any? Auction houses? Does crafting place a big role and what does one do with all the gold anyway?

Tell me of the different mounts and what they cost - can one afford one at the required level or is it a struggle?

Since I play a dark elf, I’m a bit concerned about the lack of tanks, and that the Disciple will be acting as both tank and healer. Has it any truth to it or does it work without the cut careers?

Capitals? They cut out all except two, surely they must be awesome? How awesome?

Those are the stuff I can come up with right now. It’s probably more that I want to read about, but I will have to read it before I realise it. What of the stuff that I don’t want to read about?

Guides. I don’t want to know how you get fastest out of each zone, to rush to the level cap. I want to explore everything myself, and don’t you dare spoil it to me! If your reviews explain how freaking awesome each zone is, and that it’s amazing the first time you visit it, why do you want to rob me of that feeling?

While I dispise levelling guides in the beginning, feel free to offer advice to enrich my experience. If you know a awesome looking place that not many will know about, give me directions. If you can explain exactly what Obscure Ability #3 does, enlighten me, so I don’t run the whole game without realising what it does.

Bonus points and cookies to whoever link some juicy Disciple of Khaine screenshots or information to me.

  1. I feel somehow really bad now. Off to go wallow in my own lameness.

  2. I’m waiting with baited breath for all the Runepriest info to come. Beyond that, I will admit it’s going to be amusing (or not) to see how many folks mirror various tidbits.

  3. “Guides. I don’t want to know how you get fastest out of each zone, to rush to the level cap”

Me too.. I try to evade every post about zones, because i want to explore it on myself. And i expect WAR to have more than just rank40’s beating each other. I hope that the way up to rank 40 is fun and don’t want it to spoil with too much “information”. ;)

  4. I like that some of the “bigger” blogs report news as well as other stuff, because they’ll report stuff more quickly than real news sites and also stuff that’s too little for real news sites. Waaaugh and Book of Grudges kind of drive WAR news for me.

But a couple times lately I did notice that eight or ten blogs would have the exact same story, and that seemed a little much.

  5. Hi

just wanted to stick my head in and say that 2 cities is ok. There is ALOT to do there and they are huuuugggeee! I can see why they had to cut it as it would have made the world an emptu place where every race would stay in thier own zones. Now there is a funnel effect that when ever people reaches a certain lvl will travel to the end tier zone to battle it out! I cannot tell you how cool it looks when spells, arrows, goblins and dark magic is flying though the air when trying to capture one of the higher tier keeps! My only concern is that the population from the DE vs HE, DW vs ORCS seams to spill over in to the EMP vs CHAOS parring leaving it hard for the upper tiers to get populated there by mnaking it hard to get enough people to join the Senarios.. Im looking forward to the launch so i can be proved wrong there :D

Other then that! WAR Rocks! BIG TIME! (if you ask me!)
