Still no news from GOA on why the EU Standard Edition pre-orders don’t get into Open Beta as the US version does. My Google Reader is filling up to the brim with bloggers who happily announce that they just got a invite to Closed Beta, mostly from their Collector’s Edition. If Werit’s timeline is any accurate we will be having Preview Weekend next weekend. But for all I know, it could be this weekend. So GOA are unable to squeeze in every SE pre-order into Open Beta on time, but they will have to squeeze the same people into a two day preview before the OB? I don’t want to be that guy… but yea, I don’t see that happening.

  • The EU open beta will start on time.
  • The EU account centre will open on time.
  • The EU live release and headstart will happen on time.
  • CE pre-orders for the EU will get everything they were promised. Mythic have announced extra bonuses and we will see what can be done for EU customers in response to that.

Doesn’t the last point seem a bit contradicting? “They will get everything promised” and “we will see what we can give them”. Assuring worried people and covering their own back if things go wrong in two sentences. /applaud

In fact, I haven’t even pre-ordered the normal edition yet. I’m sitting on my money, waiting for official word from GOA or any of the local stores. So far none of the “campaign partners” for the CE has any information regarding features in the SE pre-order. H3ll, one of them still list September 23 as release date. Another even bluntly announce that the pre-order features are not included in the SE, because you need a CE key to keep playing with your characters after Head Start. Not very promising. I’m even seriously considering getting a US version just to be guaranteed some of the features.

Since I don’t want to be all negative (god forbid), here are some good things you can spent your time on while everyone else and their mother are having a blast in WAR.

  1. Read other blogs of how fun they are having. (What? That could be fun too.)
  2. Read every gaming site there is for your favourite features and careers.
  3. Post about how it feels not being in beta.
  4. Read as many guides you can, to make up for the fact that you will be more than average noobish on release.
  5. Watch videos of people having fun in beta.
  6. Watch the weather and write poems on how the rain characterize your feelings about not being in beta. Maybe you could dress up in black and put on makeup as well.
  7. Catch up on the world news (what do you mean there’s a war going on?).
  8. Watch some Olympics (oh the humanity).
  9. See those reruns of Frasier that you never seem to have time for.
  10. Go to the gym more often so you are in top shapen when WAR is released. You know, so it takes a bit longer until you are back at rock bottom.
  11. Learn Japanese. Think of all the time you save on not having to wait for translations for those anime series!
  12. Update your blog’s design. Again.
  13. Learn to cook something more advanced than noodles and microwaves meatballs.
  14. Learn to meditate. Think of all the great blog posts you could come up when you are in harmony!
  15. Read the entire The Wheel of Time series to see if there is something you have missed. (Since those other four times).
  16. Make up useless lists.
  17. See the last episodes of Heroes, Lost, Dexter, Prison Break, Battlestar Galactica, 24, etc, so you are up-to-date when the new season starts.
  18. Read the Warhammer Alliance forum. (On how fun everyone is having in beta.)
  19. Make up useless lists… No wait, already did that. Hmm, how about… write a novel? Yea that works.
  20. … ok I’m all out. Got suggestions?
